Hilo murder victim is named by police
Hawaii island police have identified the victim in a murder investigation as 59-year-old Robert A. Evanson of Hilo.
Evanson was found dead in an apartment in a complex on Ululani Street in Hilo on Wednesday after police received a disturbance call at 7:32 p.m.
Police arrested a 52-year-old Pahoa woman and 63-year-old Hilo man on suspicion of second-degree murder. They were released from custody Friday as the investigation continues.
Early confrontation leads to shooting
A man was treated and released from a hospital after being shot in the chest Friday morning in Holualoa.
Kona police began investigating the shooting after responding to a 7:47 a.m. report of a gunshot victim on Waiono Meadows Road. They found a 26-year-old Holualoa man with a chest wound.
The man said he and his girlfriend were walking down Waiono Meadows Road when they got into a confrontation with an acquaintance driving up the road. The woman in the car reportedly shot the victim with a rifle and fled toward Highway 180.
The victim was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released. The shooting is being investigated as an attempted murder.
Office identifies men found on 2 beaches
The medical examiner’s office identified two men whose bodies were found on separate Oahu beaches Tuesday.
The cause of death for Ronald Patricio, 61, of Hauula, was accidental drowning. Patricio was unconscious when he was found floating in the waters off Punaluu around 2 p.m. He had been free-diving and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death for Robert Garces, 48, of Mililani, has been deferred. His body was discovered around 12:45 p.m. on a beach in Waialua.
