Kai Sasaki blasted a two-run homer as Pac-Five shocked top-ranked Mid-Pacific 4-1 in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball game at the MPI field on Friday.
Lee Tanaka, a sophomore making his first varsity start, scattered four hits to earn the complete-game win.
"He did a beautiful job," said Pac-Five coach Dennis Fukunaga.
Assets freshman David Fujimoto went 2-for-3 and tripled in a run off starting Owls pitcher Connor Zalewski to put the previously winless Wolfpack out in front in the top of the fifth.
Sasaki, the lone Wolfpack senior out of Lutheran High, cranked a shot to left off Mid-Pac’s Noah Sills in the next inning as the Pack banged out eight hits.
"Every single day, we preach the same thing: ‘You want anything, you need to go out and get it,"said Fukunaga. "Maybe it sunk in."
The Owls stranded seven runners as Tanaka became the first Wolfpack pitcher to go the distance this season.
