5. Former KITV newscaster Jill Kuramoto shared some aloha with Kelly “Kelly Boy” De Lima, left, founder and leader of Kapena, and his son, Kapena De Lima, as they were arriving to play the final slot in the show. The group — Kelly Boy playing ukulele, Kapena playing electronic percussion, and Kapena’s sisters, Kalena Ku De Lima (keyboards) and Lilo De Lima (bass) — got the crowd up and dancing with a tight 20-minute set of Jawaiian oldies, pop, Latin music and audience improv. Kelly Boy called on Mento Mele to come to the stage and “dance Samoan style,” had Rolando Sanchez join him in singing “Oye Como Va,” and then persuaded party host Reece to lead a conga line of dancers through the club while the band played “Reggae Train.” For more party photos see www.honolulupulse.com.
