Suspect arrested in fatal beating
An 18-year-old Kalihi man suspected of fatally beating a 38-year-old man in Ewa Beach a week ago is in police custody, Honolulu police said.
Police arrested the man without incident on suspicion of second-degree murder at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the Honolulu Police Department’s main station on Beretania Street, according to police records.
The victim was approached by three men near 91-965 Komana St. at about 12:20 a.m. March 23, police said.
One or more of the suspects assaulted him in the roadway, then the suspects fled in a dark sedan on Komana Street toward Pailani Street. Police described the suspects as in their late teens to early 20s.
The victim, of Ewa Beach, sustained critical head and body injuries and died at the hospital. Police did not say when he died. Officers opened a second-degree murder investigation.
