Man charged in beating death
An 18-year-old Kalihi man has been charged with beating and killing a 38-year-old man in Ewa Beach on March 23.
Gerime Bradley is charged with manslaughter in the death of Melvin Howard near his home on Komana Street at about 12:35 a.m. His bail is set at $200,000.
Police said they think Bradley was one of three men who attacked Howard.
Bradley kicked the victim in the chest and took a photo of his limp body with a cellphone, police said.
Howard sustained head and body injuries and was taken in critical condition to a hospital, where he later died.
Snorkeler rescued at Hanauma
A man in his 60s was in critical condition Monday afternoon after he was found motionless while snorkeling at Hanauma Bay.
Emergency Medical Services said the man was snorkeling 15 to 20 yards offshore when lifeguards found him motionless just after 2 p.m.
Lifeguards brought him to shore and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation, then transfered him to an ambulance crew. He was taken in critical condition to an emergency room.
Firefighter’s hearing is April 17
A preliminary hearing for a 34-year-old Honolulu firefighter charged with trying to run down three people near his Waikiki home with a vehicle is scheduled for April 17 in Honolulu District Court.
Carlin Jones was charged with three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and was released after posting $25,000 bail.
Jones, who was off duty at the time of the incident, was arrested March 19 after he allegedly intentionally drove his vehicle toward three men, ages 18, 33, and 34, and then threatened them.
