Hawaii island police arrested a 39-year-old man Saturday for allegedly firing a gun several times in the parking lot of the Courtyard By Marriott hotel in Kona.
No one was injured in the incident and no damage was reported.
A guest at the hotel who asked not to be identified said he heard about five shots and witnessed heavily armed police officers apprehending the suspect shortly after. He said that while the suspect appeared to be shooting randomly, the potential for a more tragic outcome was great.
"If he had gone into the hotel, he could have shot a bunch of guests and employees," the witness said.
The incident occurred shortly after noon.
