Driver crashes SUV into Hawaii Kai bank
A 60-year-old woman crashed a sport utility vehicle into the Hawaii Kai branch of Bank of Hawaii on Monday.
Honolulu police said the woman accidentally stepped on the accelerator, sending the SUV through the plate glass window of the Koko Marina Shopping Center branch.
The driver was not injured. A bank official said one employee received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Two customers were also treated there, according to police.
The branch was scheduled to reopen Tuesday.
Police said the accident was reported at 9:23 a.m.
Autopsy ordered for Japanese snorkeler
The medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy on a Japanese tourist who died.
Katsumi Machida, 63, of Tokyo was last seen snorkeling 15 to 20 yards offshore at Hanauma Bay on March 31.
Lifeguards found him floating in the water and brought him to shore and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was taken in critical condition to the hospital, where he died Saturday.
Motorist killed in collision was Hilo man
Big Island police have identified the man who died Sunday in a head-on collision on Keaau-Pahoa Road as 26-year-old Matthew Therrien of Hilo.
According to police, Therrien was driving west in a Subaru sedan when he attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with a Ford pickup truck. Therrien died at the scene.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
Passenger hurt seriously in fall from truck
A 23-year-old man trying to climb into the bed of a moving pickup truck suffered critical injuries Saturday when he fell off the truck.
Maui police said the man climbed out of the cab of a Toyota Tacoma through the rear sliding window into the bed of the truck at about 7:45 p.m. on Kula Highway about 1.7 miles south of Kealakapu Road. The man then fell out of the truck bed while the vehicle was moving.
The truck was driven by another 23-year-old man.
Police said the passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
