Teen hiker rescued after injuring shoulder
Firefighters rescued a teenager from the Waimano Falls area Saturday morning after she injured her shoulder swinging on a rope, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.
A call came in at 10:20 a.m. for a rescue near Manana Trail in Pearl City, which is near the falls.
Rescuers arrived about 10 minutes later and found the girl, reportedly 14 or 15 years old, near the swimming hole and rescued her using the department’s helicopter, HFD spokesman Kevin Mokulehua said.
The girl was with a group of about seven hikers, including students and chaperones, Mokulehua said. A chaperone was also airlifted from the area with the girl, but was not hurt.
The rescue crew transferred the girl to Emergency Medical Services personnel around 11:45 a.m., Mokulehua said.
According to reports from the rescue crew, the girl was swinging from a rope near the falls when she hurt her shoulder.
Fleeing driver allegedly hits police vehicle
A man allegedly collided with a Honolulu Police Department vehicle Friday evening while driving a stolen vehicle, Honolulu police said.
The incident happened just before 4:30 p.m. in the Ewa Beach area, according to police records.
Police said patrol officers were attempting to stop a stolen vehicle when the driver of the vehicle collided with a police car while trying to evade the officers.
The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal property damage, according to police records.
Man arrested in emergency-room assault
A 29-year-old Salt Lake man allegedly assaulted a medical staff worker for no apparent reason Friday afternoon in a Kalihi-area emergency room, Honolulu police said.
According to police records, the man was being treated around 12:20 p.m. when he assaulted a 41-year-old man who is part of the medical staff.
Police arrested the man around 3:30 p.m. on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Company helps owner track stolen car
A man whose car was stolen early Friday morning in the Honolulu area used a tracking company to help police locate it, Honolulu police said.
The 43-year-old man called a tracking company around 2:30 a.m. when he noticed his car was stolen, according to police records. The company contacted police with the car’s location, and police found it within 15 minutes.
Police at 2:45 a.m. arrested the driver, a 20-year-old Makiki man, on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle, and his passenger, a 42-year-old homeless woman, on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a vehicle.
Also Friday, police said officers arrested a 36-year-old homeless man Friday evening for allegedly stealing a car more than a week ago.
A 31-year-old man reported the car stolen around 4:50 p.m. April 3, according to police records.
Officers located the alleged car thief in the Honolulu area Friday around 5:25 p.m. The man, who has no local address, was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a motor vehicle, according to police records.
