Six Flags will open park in Dubai
Grand Prairie, Texas-based Six Flags Entertainment Corp. is again attempting to broaden its international reach beyond North America and into the Middle East.
The theme park owner and operator said it is partnering with Meraas Leisure and Entertainment, a Dubai-based real estate development company, to open a Six Flags-branded park in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The project will open in 2017 and be located in a multithemed park project in Jebel Ali, Six Flags said. Jebel Ali is Dubai’s leading port.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, nor were details about the theme park’s design.
Six Flags has revenue of $1.1 billion annually. It has 18 parks in the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
Google offers public sales of Glass
SAN FRANCISCO » A lot more people are about to get a chance to buy Google Glass, the Internet-connected eyewear that has become the hottest accessory in geek fashion.
Google will sell the "Explorer" version of Glass to any U.S. resident who places an online order for the device beginning at 3 a.m. Hawaii time Tuesday. The product will cost $1,500, the same price that Google Inc. has charged for Glass since sales of the device began last year, the company said.
The sale will take place at google.com/glass/ start/how-to-get-one. Google isn’t saying how many sets of Glass will be available during the limited-time offer.
It marks the first time that Google has made Glass available to consumers without providing them special access. More than 10,000 sets of Glass have been sold to a select group of developers, contest winners and other invitees.
Global economic growth tenuous
WASHINGTON» The world’s top financial officials say they believe the global economy is strengthening but growth remains fragile and open to risks of new geopolitical strife, as in Ukraine.
Rich countries have been helping power the recovery led by the United States and Britain, and the eurozone and Japan are doing better. However, there has been some slowing in major emerging markets such as China even though these economies have been powering along at growth rates ahead of developed nations.
Many countries still are experiencing painfully high unemployment rates with millions looking for work.
