At NASA’s Low Density Supersonic Decelerator Technology demonstration last week, mission scientists showed the test vehicle to the media before its shipment out of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. The NASA project will fly the saucer-shaped test vehicle into near-space in June from the U.S. Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai. The demonstration mission will test technologies to enable large payloads to be safely landed on the surface of Mars, or other planets with atmospheres, including Earth.
