Man indicted in botched robbery of arcade
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Wednesday charging a 19-year-old Kalihi man in the attempted robbery of a Ward Avenue arcade.
Toutaimana Downer was armed with an object that resembled a firearm when he tried to rob a Winner’z Zone on Thursday and restrained another man during the incident, committing the offenses of first-degree robbery and kidnapping, the indictment said. Downer, of Ahonui Street, remained at Oahu Community Correctional Center on Wednesday, unable to post $100,000 bail.
Police said Downer and an unknown man walked up to a Winner’z Zone at 1:56 a.m. Thursday and forced a group of people and the security guard inside the business. Downer’s accomplice pulled out a handgun and told the guard to take him to the safe, police said. The guard disarmed the gunman, who fled, and detained a suspect.

The suspect was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder. He was released Monday night pending further investigation. Police said the victim was shot several times in the chest.
