Brittany Fan qualifies for LPGA event
Hawaii’s Brittany Fan will make her LPGA debut Thursday after qualifying Monday for the North Texas LPGA Shootout. Fan will be a freshman at the University of Colorado in the fall.
She fired a 3-under 68 to earn co-medalist honors in the tournament’s Collegiate Shootout. That was a shot better than the winning scores in the professional qualifier.
The LPGAShootout features two cuts. The first comes after the second round, with the top 70 and ties playing the weekend. The second comes Saturday, with the top 50 and ties playing Sunday. The tournament is at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving. Michelle Wie is also in the field and tees off 20 minutes after Fan Thursday morning.
Wie was just nominated for a Kia Performance Award-Community Assist for her part in the "Wie Love Ping Pong" benefit here the night of her LPGA Lotte Championship victory. The fundraiser with the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association helped start two college scholarships managed by the Hawaii Community Foundation.
