Cameron Higgins is the new head football coach at Kaiser High School.
Sources confirmed that Higgins has been selected to succeed Rich Miano, who stepped down after two seasons.
Miano’s teams went 20-4 in those two years, winning the Division II state title in 2013. Higgins, the former Weber State and Saint Louis quarterback, was Miano’s offensive coordinator.
With Higgins calling the plays, Kaiser employed a variety of styles, using a power-I formation to maximize a surplus of big running backs, as well as a more traditional four-wide, shotgun attack. Though the program will lose a lot of seniors to graduation, including Oregon State-bound Fitou Fisiiahi, there is talent in the cupboard.
Among the returnees this fall will be 6-foot-3, 225-pound quarterback Kahi Neves, who will be a junior.
Among those who won’t be back on the staff is wide receivers coach Jeremiah Cockheran, who has joined Cal Lee’s staff at Saint Louis.
