Jiu-Jitsu triple crown event Saturday
The Hawaii Triple Crown of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will celebrate its 10th anniversary Saturday at Pearl City High School. The event series consists of five tournaments throughout the year and is the only official Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu event in the state.
The children’s competition begins at 10 a.m., followed by the adults at 11:30 a.m. Champions of the Triple Crown will receive free round-trip tickets to compete in the World Jiu-Jitsu Tournament in Long Beach, Calif. The next Hawaii Triple Crown event will be held on July 12 at Kaiser High.
UH Hilo, HPU split in baseball
Keenan Nishioka had two hits and two RBIs, helping Hawaii Hilo (12-31, 10-22 PacWest) beat Hawaii Pacific 7-4 for a split in their doubleheader Friday at Wong Stadium.
HPU (27-21, 19-12 PacWest) won the first game 10-1 behind sophomore pitcher Joshua Garcia, who struck out eight. Kevin Lenik and Ryan Torres-Torioka hit home runs for the Sea Warriors.
Edison Sakata led Hawaii Hilo with two hits.
