Hawaii Pacific wins NCAA West Regional
The Hawaii Pacific women’s tennis team defeated Academy of Art 5-0 to win the NCAA West Regional on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Sea Warriors (18-6) won all three of the doubles matches and clinched the title with wins at singles by Celina Goetti and Magdalena Smejova. HPU will join Brigham Young-Hawaii at the NCAA championships, which start on May 14 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Vulcans rally past Sea Warriors in baseball
Sean Nearhoof’s walk-off RBI single scored Byron Freitas as the host Hawaii Hilo baseball team defeated Hawaii Pacific 4-3 on Saturday. Nearhoof and Jonathan James each went 2-for-4 for the Vulcans (13-31). Chad Bolibol had two hits and two RBIs for the Sea Warriors (27-22).
Fujikawa finishes 23rd in eGolf Tour event
Tadd Fujikawa shot a 1-under 70 on Saturday to finish tied for 23rd at the eGolf Tour’s Columbia Open in Blythewood, S.C. Fujikawa finished the four-round tourney at 1-under 283 to pocket $1,550. Sunny Kim won at 15-under 269.
Wahine assistant at Quarterback Club
Mary Wooley, the Hawaii women’s basketball assistant coach, will speak at Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon. It will be held at the Maple Garden restaurant and lunch starts at 11:30 a.m.
