Miller is sportsman of year at Cornell College in Iowa
Cornell (Iowa) College senior Geoffrey Miller was honored Monday night as one of the school’s two sportsmen of the year.
The 2010 Punahou alumnus finished his football career in the fall with his third consecutive all-conference honor and holds school records with 234 solo tackles and a staggering 22 tackles in a single game.
His 394 total tackles ranked second among all Division III players last season and he finished the year with a career-high four sacks.
Oshiro earns softball honors
Pacific (Calif.) junior Kylee Oshiro was selected as the school’s female student-athlete of the month for April on Monday.
A unanimous selections to the All-Northwest Conference softball first team, Oshiro, a 2011 Moanalua alumna, finished April with a .484 average, 15 hits and 11 RBIs.
She helped the Boxers clinch a berth in the postseason tournament, going 4-for-4 against Pacific Lutheran and having the game-winning hits in both games of a doubleheader against George Fox.
Peters and Kiyabu pitch Kingsmen to championship
Scott Peters and Landry Kiyabu of Cal Lutheran worked together to help pitch the Kingsmen to a second straight conference championship and berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Peters, a 2011 Punahou alumnus, earned his sixth win of the season as Cal Lutheran defeated Chapman (Calif.) 10-4 on Sunday to win the Southern California Interscholastic Athletic Conference postseason tournament.
The 6-foot-3 left-hander pitched 51⁄3 innings against the Panthers, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
Peters left the game with one out in the sixth and the bases loaded after giving up an RBI single to bring the tying run to the plate with Cal Lutheran leading 6-2.
The Kingsmen brought in Kiyabu, a 2011 Hawaii Baptist alumnus, who saved the lead, forcing Chapman to hit into an inning-ending double play.
Peters is 6-3 with a 3.25 ERA in 13 starts with two complete games this year. Kiyabu has appeared in 12 games as a reliever and is 4-0 with a 4.91 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 142⁄3 innings pitched.
Cal Lutheran also has freshman pitcher Trey Saito (Mid-Pacific ’13), who is 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA in 181⁄3 innings and outfielder Gabe Gunter (King Kekaulike ’13), who is hitting .366 (30-for-82) with eight doubles, a home run and 28 RBIs.
Cal Lutheran (34-8) will play in the NCAA Division III West Regional, hosted by Linfield (Ore.), May 14-18.
