Bloomfield (N.J.) College’s all-time hits leader rewrote the history book yet again last week.
Senior Angie Yoshizu, a 2010 University High alumna, became the first Deacons softball player to earn the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the year award, which was handed out last week.
Yoshizu, who also won the CACC rookie of the year award as a freshman in 2011, played every game this year at shortstop and committed only four errors.
She hit .389 (53-for-137) in 39 games with 10 doubles and a team-high 34 runs scored and eight stolen bases in nine attempts.
"I couldn’t be more proud of Angie and I am honored that the CACC coaches think so highly of her to vote for her," Bloomfield softball coach Rocco Constantino said in a news release. "I believe the coaches who voted for her respected not only everything she has done for us this season, but for the remarkable career she has put together at Bloomfield."
Yoshizu became the second Bloomfield player to earn first team All-CACC honors three times and is the first to do it in three straight seasons.
Earlier this year, she became the school’s all-time hits leader in the Division II era, breaking the previous mark of 203, and she finishes her career with 241 total.
Yoshizu appeared in nine playoff games in her career and hit safely in eight of them, finishing with a .483 (14-for-29) batting average.
She is also the first Bloomfield athlete in any sport to win both the CACC rookie of the year and player of the year awards and was honored in February as Bloomfield College’s woman of the year.
"From her first season here Angie has truly exemplified what it means to be a student-athlete," Constantino said. "She has been a fine student, a strong leader on campus and a terrific athlete. There were so many terrific performances by players during our softball season this year, but I couldn’t think of a more deserving player to win this award than Angie."
