Right from the start, Elisa Favela looked to be in for a big night on Wednesday.
The Campbell sophomore struck out the side in the top of the first inning, drove in a run with a double in the bottom of the inning and sustained her momentum through the final out of an upset victory.
Favela finished with six strikeouts while holding top-seeded Kamehameha to two hits in a 5-0 win in the Division I quarterfinals of the DataHouse/HHSAA Softball Championships at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Favela opened the tournament with a nine-strikeout performance in a win over Lahainaluna on Tuesday and was sharp again Wednesday while helping Campbell, the No. 4 team out of the OIA, advance to the state semifinals for the fifth straight year.
"She’s brought her game up," Campbell coach Michael Hermosura said. "This year she just dedicated everything to the team. … Win or lose, she’s going to bring her ‘A’ game all the time."
Favela threw 71 pitches in her complete-game effort. She threw first-pitch strikes to 21 of the 24 batters she faced and went to a three-ball count just once prior to issuing her lone walk of the game with two out in the seventh inning.
"We came in knowing they have big hitters and we had to pitch low," Favela said.
She shared credit for the shutout with a defense that allowed just two hits — both off the bat of Kamehameha’s Kiana Burnett — to fall in safely.
"I always can believe in my girls, no matter what," Favela said.
Kamehameha’s Christine Hipa drove two pitches about 199 feet, but left fielder Ashlyn Yagin made a catch at the fence in the fourth inning and Sierra Mariano snagged another with her back against the signage in right field in the seventh.
Center fielder Nashlyn Anguay ended the game with a spectacular diving catch of a liner into the right-center gap.
Favela gave herself a lead to work with in the bottom of the first with a double to right-center that scored Chardonnay Pantastico with the game’s first run. Caragh Morris advanced to third on the double and beat the throw to the plate on Anguay’s grounder to give Campbell a 2-0 lead.

Mililani 3, Maryknoll 2
A night after Maryknoll’s Shearyna Labasan threw a no-hitter, Mililani sophomore Aubree Kim matched the feat to send the second-seeded Trojans to the semifinals.
Kim struck out 13, including the final three batters of the game, and Kylyn Sasaki found redemption by driving in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to set up a meeting with Mid-Pacific at 7 p.m. Friday.
"I didn’t even know (it was a no-hitter)," Kim said. "I’m just really happy we got the win, that’s all that really matters."
Kim walked eight batters and she gave up two unearned runs in the top of the sixth when Sasaki dropped a fly ball to left field with two out, allowing Maryknoll to take a 2-1 lead.
The Trojans fought back and tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Justine Fabella’s RBI single. Sasaki made up for her error by drilling a single up the middle to score Kristen Ishii with the go-ahead run.
"It meant a lot. I just had to believe in myself and I knew my team had my back — that’s what got me there," Sasaki said.

The Owls rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand the Bears their first loss and advance to the semifinals.
Sarah Onishi, who homered twice on Tuesday, drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a two-run double. Onishi enters the semifinals 5-for-6 with seven RBIs for the tournament.
Baldwin took the lead with a three-run third inning, highlighted by Nawai Kaupe’s two-run triple. The Bears led 4-2 going into the sixth, but MPI’s first two batters reached on a walk and a fielder’s choice and Lindsey Matoi’s RBI single. Onishi followed with her double to the right-center gap to give MPI the lead.
