Aubree Kim weathered a shaky start and got ample support from the Mililani offense as the Trojans advanced to the final of the DataHouse/HHSAA Division I Softball championship Championship with a 9-1 win over Mid-Pacific on Thursday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
A night after throwing a no-hitter against Maryknoll, Kim held Mid-Pacific to one hit and struck out nine to help offset 11 walks. Mililani powered ahead on Kylyn Sasaki’s home run in the third inning and the second-seeded Trojans will face OIA Red West rival Campbell for the state championship at 7 p.m. Friday at RWSS.
Mid-Pacific took the lead without posting a hit in a top of the first inning interrupted by the 36-minute rain delay. Taylor Oda scored the game’s first run on an error but Kim escaped a bases-loaded jam and left the bases loaded again in the second before retiring 11 consecutive batters.
The Trojans scored the tying run in the bottom of the third on consecutive doubles by Justine Fabella and Markie Okamoto. Sasaki, who drove in the winning run against Maryknoll on Wednesday, then launched a home run to center field to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead.
Mililani then pulled away with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth and leadoff hitter Jade Yadao-Valdez added a solo homer in the sixth inning.
