Combine and camp are coming soon
The 13th annual Under Armour-PIAA Hawaii high school football combine will be held May 31 at Mililani High School’s John Kauinana Stadium.
The combine is open to players in grades 9 through 12, and PIAA administrative director Doris Sullivan said that about 200 of the 260 spots have been filled.
The cost is $25.
A week after that, the Maximum Exposure camp hosted by Gridiron Performance Academy will be held June 6-8 at Kauinana Stadium. Sullivan said that the camp is not a PIAA event, but that the PIAA supports it. Rod York (Mililani), Rich Miano (former Kaiser) and Chad Ikei are some of the coaches helping with the camp, which already has dozens of college coaches signed up to attend.
The three-day camp cost is $165. There are discounts for players who sign up as a team for both events, Sullivan said.
Coaches from Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Hawaii, Notre Dame, Oregon, Kansas, Utah and Stanford are among those who will be there from FBS schools, Sullivan said. There will also be coaches from Diablo Valley, Occidental, Pacific, Virginia Union and Western New Mexico.

Hallums likes Gonzaga
Tiyana Hallums is on her way to Gonzaga.
Well, not just yet. Soon enough, though, the Kamehameha junior will fly to the Northwest, where the Bulldogs could use her skills anywhere on the court.
"This seems like the perfect fit. I don’t know what any other school can offer me to change my mind. They’ll let me play outside, which is completely rare since I’m a short outside," said Hallums, who says she is "5-8 with shoes on."
Hallums was a Star-Advertiser All-State Fab 15 selection in volleyball last fall, a dynamic, explosive playmaker with the skill to play any position. Gonzaga was among a bunch that showed interest. The others included Auburn, Cornell, Dartmouth, Montana State, Utah and Washington State. It was GU, however, that offered the best financial package. "I really wanted to make sure I was financially set so my family doesn’t have to worry about me," she said. "Gonzaga is a great academic school and their volleyball program is on the rise. They committed to me for five years, a full ride."
Faumui and Keamo head to JC powerhouse
Farrington senior Penina Faumui will play basketball at powerhouse Blinn College next season.
Faumui is a Star-Advertiser All-State Fab 15 selection, a multi-skilled player who can play guard and forward.
Blinn, a community college in Brenham, Texas, reached the quarterfinals of the national junior college (NJCAA) women’s basketball championship in March. The Buccaneers were ranked No. 12 in NJCAA Division I prior to the tourney.
Blinn (28-7) averaged 82.6 points per game and was 15-3 in Region XIV Conference play.
Former Farrington standout Trinity Alualu is a freshman volleyball player for the Buccaneers. She started for a team that went 39-3 and beat Tyler (Texas) for the national title. Current Mililani senior Jordyn Keamo, an All-State Fab 15 volleyball selection, is also going to play for Blinn.
