Assets School tops in recycling contest
The school getting the biggest boost for its Project Graduation is Assets School, thanks to Retail Merchants of Hawaii and Reynolds Recycling, sponsors of the Project Graduation HI-5 Recycling Competition.
Assets took first place honors and the $3,000 prize for collecting the most recyclable containers. Second place went to Moanalua High School, which claimed $1,500 in prize money, and Kaimuki High School claimed the wild-card drawing prize of $1,000.
From March 5 through April 15, high schools statewide recycled HI-5 beverage containers to raise money for their school’s Project Graduation. Over the six-week period, students collected about 52,700 containers — 700 pounds of aluminum, 450 pounds of plastic and 2,600 pounds of glass — that were recycled.
Founded in 1901, Retail Merchants of Hawaii is a trade association committed to the growth and development of Hawaii’s retail industry.
