Leisha Li’ili’i’s eye-catching statistics grabbed the attention of voters for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s all-region teams.
The University of Hawaii first baseman was named to NFCA All-West Region second team on Thursday after hitting a career-best .401 for the Rainbow Wahine this season.
"Hitting over .400 puts you in an elite category," UH coach Bob Coolen said. "People look at .400 and say … you’re not just hitting the lowly teams, you’re hitting everyone."
Li’ili’i hit cleanup in all 50 games this season and reached base safely in 46 while leading the Rainbow Wahine (22-28) with 15 home runs and 39 runs batted in.
The Castle graduate was also named to the All-Big West first team earlier this week and was among five Hawaii high school products to earn All-Region honors.
Florida State center fielder and Mililani graduate Courtney Senas was a first-team pick in the Southeast Region. Senas is hitting .343 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs for the Seminoles (50-6), the eighth seed in the NCAA tournament. FSU will host a regional starting Friday.
UCLA third baseman Mysha Sataraka joined Li’ili’i on the West Region second team. The Punahou graduate was a first-team All-Pac 12 pick for the Bruins (48-6), the No. 3 seed in the NCAA bracket.
East Carolina second baseman Kristi Oshiro (Mililani) made the Mideast Region second team. Weber State’s Jasmine Ioane (Punahou) made the Midwest Region second team as a utility player.
The NFCA also released its Division II All-Region teams and UH Hilo outfielder Rebecca Lee made the West Region second team.
