Galdiano fires 3-under 69 to lead Jennie K
Mariel Galdiano shot a 3-under 69 to take the lead after the first round of the Jennie K Invitational on Friday at Mid Pacific Country Club.
Galdiano holds a three-stroke lead over Malia Nam, who shot even par. Rose Huang is third after a 1-over 73. At 2-over 74 are Arisa Hori, Brittany Fan and Kaci Masuda.
Kozaki finishes fourth in pole vault
Hawaii freshman Amber Kozaki placed fourth in Friday’s pole vault at the Big West Championships in Davis, Calif.
Kozaki cleared 12 feet, 8 1/4 inches. Hawaii’s Robyn Morioka tied for fifth with a height of 12-2 1/2 and teammate Juliana Powell was eighth at 11-8 1/2.
In the javelin, Kaleigh Morrison placed sixth with a throw of 133-6 and Shayna Dockery was eighth at 126-10. Morrison was fifth in the long jump at 18-10 3/4. The Rainbow Wahine are fifth in the team standings with 27 points. Cal State Northridge leads at 72. The meet ends Saturday.
