Skateboarder killed, motorist locked up
A skateboarder was killed on Kamehameha Highway near the Crouching Lion Inn in Kaaawa early Sunday morning.
Police said the 26-year-old Honolulu man was Kahuku-bound on Kamehameha Highway on a skateboard near Keo Place when he veered onto the roadway in the path of a Kahuku-bound vehicle.
Police arrested a 24-year old Laie man on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant and first-degree negligent homicide.
The skateboarder was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said alcohol may be a factor in the accident.
Police closed, then contra-flowed, the highway as Traffic Division officers investigated the accident, which happened at about 12:43 a.m., officials said.
The highway was reopened by 4:30 a.m.
Two friends of the victim, including a man who said he was with the victim when he died, returned to the scene of the incident Sunday morning but did not wish to comment further.
3 men sought in armed robbery
Police are searching for a group of men who committed an armed robbery in the Honolulu area early Saturday morning.
An 18-year-old man told police an unknown man approached him at about 12:50 a.m., brandished a dangerous instrument and demanded his property. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction with the stolen property.
Police are searching for three men in their 20s and one man in his 30s in connection with the alleged crime, according to police records.
None of the suspects has been located.
Gunfire brings suspect’s arrest
A 42-year-old Kapolei man allegedly fired a gun into a concrete roof early Sunday morning in the Waipahu area during an argument with a group of men, police said.
Police arrested the man at 1 a.m. on suspicion of first-degree reckless endangerment, according to police records.
The suspect fired at the roof at about 12:40 a.m. when the group argument escalated, police said. Police, already responding to a report of the argument, located the man and arrested him, according to police records.
The suspect was released pending investigation.
