An early exit by starter Jarrett Arakawa meant at least seven innings were needed from the Hawaii bullpen.
Advantage: UC Davis.
The Aggies scored a season high in runs, while the Rainbow Warriors allowed a season-worst 21 hits in UC Davis’ 12-3 victory to clinch the series on Sunday at Dobbins Stadium in Davis, Calif.
Spencer Brann went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored, and Tanner Bily had four hits and scored twice for UC Davis (23-38, 7-14), which jumped past Cal State Northridge for seventh place in the Big West heading into the final week of the season.
Marc Flores had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Rainbow Warriors (20-30, 4-17), who need to sweep UC Riverside next week to avoid finishing last in their second season in the Big West.
Sunday’s loss means it’s the second straight year UH has lost 30 games. It had only lost 30 twice in coach Mike Trapasso’s first 11 seasons, when the team played in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Big West still has a shot at four out of nine teams making a regional after Cal State Fullerton swept UC Irvine this weekend and Long Beach State took two of three against UC Riverside to improve to 29-24 overall and 14-7 in conference.
At least three of Hawaii’s nonconference opponents — Pepperdine, Oregon and Texas — should make the 64-team field that will be announced next Monday.

Hawaii, which hasn’t been in the running for a regional berth since 2011, when it finished 35-26 and won the WAC regular-season title, was doomed by UC Davis’ seven-run fifth inning on Sunday.
UH trailed 4-3 when junior Scott Squier, pitching in his third consecutive game, gave up four hits and a walk while recording only one out.
Nick Lynch hit a two-run double as Hawaii allowed six or more runs in an inning for the sixth time this season.
Hawaii led 3-2 in the third inning when four straight batters reached base with two outs. Flores and Trevor Podratz hit consecutive RBI singles to give UH the lead.
Arakawa left after giving up one run on three hits in the first inning.
Quintin Torres-Costa (3-3) took the loss, giving up three runs — two earned — on four hits and two walks in three innings.
LJ Brewster recorded UH’s only strikeout in the bottom of the eighth inning, with the Aggies ahead by nine runs.
Evan Wolf (4-5) picked up the win for UC Davis, allowing nine hits in eight innings with no walks and four strikeouts.
The bottom four hitters in UH’s lineup went 2-for-15, with Matt Miller hitting a pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth.
Flores’ season average jumped to .302 with his three hits, and Kaeo Aliviado went 1-for-4 with a run scored to sit right at .300 heading into UH’s final series.
Adam Hurley, who hit third in the lineup for the first time all year, singled and scored. He leads the team with a .309 average.
Other than leadoff hitter Stephen Ventimilia, who is hitting .285, UH doesn’t have another starter hitting over .242.
Since its opening Big West series against UC Santa Barbara, UH is averaging 2.8 runs per game in conference.
