Owners of British-made cars will gather Sunday for the annual British Car Day beginning with a morning caravan through Waikiki, a free show-and-shine for the public, and a luncheon for registered participants.
Anyone with a British-made vehicle is welcome to join the caravan by meeting at Ala Moana Center on the middle level outside Macy’s before 8:30 a.m., according to organizer Rob Caveney (robcaveney@hawaii.rr.com).
The caravan will culminate at Kapiolani Park for the 9 a.m. to noon event, where owners will display their British steel, with many of the bonnets (hoods) open and boots (trunks) likely closed.
Those wishing to participate in the display, near the intersection of Monsarrat and Paki avenues, may contact British Car Club Hawaii President Brett Pruitt at 521-1929 for registration information.
Registered participants also are invited to the 12:30 p.m. luncheon at Gordon Biersch, at which legendary British rally car driver John Sprinzel will discuss the international racing scene in the 1950s and 1960s. He drove vehicles ranging from the original Mini Coopers to Austin Healey Sprites.
