Fujikawa tied for sixth in eGolf event
Tadd Fujikawa fired a 4-under 68 and sits in a tie for sixth place after the first round of the eGolf Tour’s Willow Creek Open on Wednesday in High Point, N.C.
Chase Wilson is the leader with a 6-under 66.
The second round is Thursday and then the field will be cut to the low 35 percent and ties for Friday’s final round.
UH signee named Gatorade player of year
Incoming University of Hawaii women’s soccer freshman Kiani Halushka was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Hawaii Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
A four-year letterwinner at Kamehameha, Halushka is UH’s first soccer recruit since 2007 (Mari Punzal) to receive the award.
During her senior season, Halushka scored 19 goals (three of which came in the Division I state championship match) and led the Warriors to their second state title in three years.
Hawaii Hilo golf finishes 13th at nationals
The Hawaii Hilo men’s golf team shot a final round 296, good for a 13th-place finish in the NCAA Division II national championships in Allendale, Mich.
The Vulcans’ three-round total of 907 was 12 shots behind eighth place and only the top eight teams advanced to the match-play section of the tournament. Dalen Yamauchi led Hawaii Hilo with a three-round total of 223, which placed him in a tie for 25th.
