How hard is it to install a toilet?
Sun Yat-sen is a renowned figure in global history. That the founding father of the Chinese Republic has Hawaii ties — he attended ‘Iolani and Punahou schools in the late 1800s while he lived in Honolulu with his brother — is a point of pride for some local residents and definitely a point of interest for tourists from abroad, especially visitors from China and Taiwan.
It is shameful the city-owned park dedicated to this historic figure — Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park in Chinatown — has degraded into an open-air toilet, with homeless people who lack public facilities relieving themselves wherever they please.
Chinatown needs an industrial-strength, public restroom as soon as possible.
2 more rounds for UH baseball
It hasn’t been the greatest of seasons for the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors baseball team. As Star-Advertiser writer Billy Hull noted Thursday, "Back-to-back 30-loss seasons have tested everyone’s patience."
But kudos to the team members anyway; they played hard and almost always gave fans a good show. The seniors on the team are leaving with some fond memories, despite the season record.
Now we’re down to the final two games.
The three-game series against the University of California at Riverside started Thursday and continues Friday and Saturday nights.
The games will be telecast on OC16, but how much more fun it would be to attend the games in person. Bid the seniors farewell and enjoy the beautiful Les Murakami Stadium while you’re at it.
Go, Rainbow Warriors!
