‘VENUS’ HANA HOU ?
1. Terri Madden, seated right, congratulated All the World’s a Stage cast members Paul Mitri (Thomas) and Leiney Rigg (Vanda), seated center, and director Hannah Schauer Galli on a sold-out run after their production of “Venus in Fur” played its final scheduled performance May 18 at The Creative in Chinatown. Mitri and Rigg gave such convincing performances in demanding multicharacter roles that a “hana hou” performance was presented Friday.

4. Co-emcees Kimo Kaho­ano, left, and Carole Kai talked with Billie Gabriel and Leighton Tseu after the program. Tseu opened the evening with a lengthy processional oli (chant) that included a section of the Kumu­lipo (Hawaiian creation chant) as well as poetry relevant to the event.

3. Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning record producer David Kawika Talisman, left, shared some love with Mayor Kirk Caldwell before dinner was served. Speaking during the formal presentation, Caldwell stressed the importance of a clean, pleasant and safe Wai­kiki. “As Wai­kiki goes, so goes Hawaii,” he said.

Mike McCartney, second from left, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, and Jessica Lani Rich, president and executive director of the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii, were the guests of honor when Lee Dono­hue, president of the Hono­lulu Police Community Foundation, presented the foundation’s seventh annual fundraiser dinner and awards ceremony May 16 at the Sheraton Wai­kiki. Gov. Neil Abercrombie, center, and HPD Chief Louis Kea­loha joined Dono­hue in saluting McCartney, Rich and their respective organizations for their commitment to maintaining Wai­kiki as a top-class visitor destination and assisting visitors when problems occur.
