Woman accused of assaulting boyfriend
A 31-year-old homeless woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend during an argument in Waikiki.
Police said the alleged assault occurred just after 3 p.m. near the Ala Wai Boat Harbor.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Crash victim is identified on Big Island
Police have identified a 30-year-old Hilo man who died Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in Hilo as Palani B. Cobb-Adams.
Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Cobb-Adams was driving a 1994 Toyota pickup truck west on Puainako Street when he crossed the centerline at 4:21 a.m. Sunday, police said. His truck then struck a street sign and an embankment, police said.
Fire rescue personnel took him to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:21 a.m. An autopsy will be performed.
Maui shed fire causes $11,500 in damage
Maui firefighters extinguished a shed fire Monday afternoon in Kahului.
The firefighters, responding to a 3:03 p.m. alarm, arrived quickly and found the 10-by-5-foot detached shed 75 percent involved.
It was brought under control within a few minutes.
A fire inspector determined it was accidental, and damage to the structure was estimated at $2,500 and $9,000 to its contents.
Playground welcomes kids in Kona
Hawaii County officials have opened a playground at Kailua Park near the Old Airport in Kona.
IPR Hawai‘i built the playground for $440,677. Multiple areas, designed for children between the ages of 2 and 12, feature swings, slides, climbing rings, covered decks, benches, picnic tables and a pavilion.
