UH struggles in sailing finals
The University of Hawaii sailing team closed the first day of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women’s National Championship finals at the bottom of the standings.
The Rainbow Wahine stood in 18th place with 266 points after 10 races in two divisions on Thursday at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
UH’s Madeline Kennedy and Katrina Berry posted 106 points, good for 11th in the A Division. The B Division team of Louise Curry, Annie Kelly and Cecilia Jansson finished with 160 points.
UH placed sixth in its semifinal bracket on Wednesday to advance to the finals, but temperatures dropped into the 50s with steady rain on Thursday.
Yale leads the race for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy with 110 points. The championship regatta ends Friday with eight races in both divisions.
Porlier Langlois 36th in NCAA shot put
UH junior Alex Porlier Langlois placed 36th in the preliminary round of the NCAA West Regional Championships on Thursday in Fayetteville, Ark.
Two weeks after earning a silver medal at the Big West championships, Porlier Langlois, from St.-Cesaire, Quebec, fouled on her first two attempts before throwing 48 feet, 31/2 inches (14.72 meters) on her final attempt.
Porlier Langlois, ranked No. 40 nationally in discus, will compete in the event on Friday.
Standhardinger debuts on boxing card
Former Hawaii basketball player Christian Standhardinger is scheduled to make his local amateur boxing debut on the semi-main event of Saturday’s Amateur Boxing of Hawaii card at Palolo Gym.
The 6-foot-8 German national, fighting out of FlexHard Pro Boxing Club, will take on Palolo BC’s Antonio Toetuu.
The main event pits Kalihi’s Gaylord Balasi, a past Hawaii junior Olympic and state champion, against veteran Rocky Vigil from Denver.
Competition begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $12.

Chaminade hosts golf tournament
The second Chaminade Athletics Fundraiser Golf Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 4 at Olomana Golf Links.
The modified 3-person scramble has a noon shotgun start. The cost is $150 per individual and $450 for team and includes green fee, cart, lunch, awards dinner and goodie bag.
Sponsorship packages are available from $700 to $6,000.
