The world is full of busy people who pay attention to something only when it appears on the doorstep. The time to tune in has arrived, rail-watchers: The show is about to start.
Construction work along Farrington and Kamehameha highways will intensify over the summer and fall. Kiewit Infrastructure West Co., which is handling construction along the first four segments of the project, is holding monthly community meetings focused on the work along Kamehameha and Farrington highways in Pearl City and Waipahu.
They are held every second Tuesday and second Wednesday, respectively. Officials of Kiewit as well as Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) attend. The next meetings:
» On the Kamehameha route — 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Pearl Ridge Elementary School cafeteria.
» On the Farrington route — 6:30 p.m. July 9, Waipahu High School library (the June meeting was cancelled due to the Kamehameha Day holiday).
The public can enroll in Kiewit’s weekly traffic updates at the meetings.
In addition, here are other ways to stay informed:
» The HART email list. The authority’s website (honolulutransit.org) has a "HART weekly eBLAST sign-up" link in the middle of the home page.
» Also on the site, under the "traffic updates" menu on top, are maps showing traffic patterns at the main points of construction.
» Pearl City Shopping Center’s MyPearlCity.com portal has a link to a transit section on the right hand side.
» The city also issues alerts on its rail Twitter feed. Search for HNL_RTD and click "follow."
