Hawaiian Telcom is closer to going Oahu-wide with its television and high-speed Internet service.

The company released to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser a list of the 46 communities in which it presently has television customers.
The service is available to "more than 130,000 households," said spokeswoman Su Shin.
The service isn’t necessarily available in 100 percent of each of the neighborhoods in which it has customers, Shin said.
Residents in areas on the list can go to the Hawaiian Telcom website and input basic address information to check it out. If the search result proves they are not yet connectable, "they can submit their email address, and because we’re building out our network so quickly, we will reach out to them as soon as we’re able to serve them," she said.
As much as Hawaiian Telcom officials wish the service would be available islandwide "tomorrow … from a network-build perspective, within two to three years (the whole island) should be on our next-generation fiber network," Shin said.
To receive the legacy phone company’s TV service, a home has to be enabled for at least 21 mbps (megabits per second) of Internet speed, hence the bundled offer.
Customers need not order both services, "but obviously our hope is that they’ll see the value," Guild said.

WALK THIS WAY
TLC PR, formerly known as The Limtiaco Co. Inc., is the only public relations company honored at this year’s Lifesaver’s Conference, described as the nation’s largest gathering of highway safety professionals.
TLC PR and the state Department of Transportation were presented with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Award for Public Service, its highest public-service honor, for the "Walk Wise Hawaii" pedestrian safety campaign, said TLC PR founder and CEO Ruth Limtiaco.
Efforts to promote pedestrian safety by TLC PR and campaign partners including the DOT, the Honolulu Police Department, McDonald’s of Hawaii and AAA Hawaii are credited with helping to reduce pedestrian fatalities by 10 percent since 2003.
"Your dedication to making highways safer has contributed to significant progress in reducing traffic-related deaths and injuries," David Friedman, acting NHTSA administrator, said in a statement.
