Colorful nail art impresses
Wherever Igo, I always see women with beautiful nail art on their fingers. Recently I treated myself to a manicure and pedicure at The Nailery at 1646 Kapiolani Blvd. Dexter Do, the nail artist who runs the shop, painted four of my fingernails black and one gold with a black ribbon for $35. I just loved it! Other options are 3-D nail art, intricate hand-painted designs and rhinestones. Call 944-4644 or visit naileryhawaii.com. — Jenny Delos Santos
Jewelry line shines bright
Whiting & Davis has long been known for its elegant mesh handbags, but the company was founded in 1876 as silversmiths. The first Whiting & Davis collection comprised sterling silver bracelets, earrings, stick pins and bar pins. The brand relaunched its fashion jewelry division last year with a holiday/resort collection that was an instant hit, paving the way for a summer collection boasting the colors of the sun and including some reversible designs (colored enamel on one side and gold or silver on the other). The Marion bracelets ($85), pictured, feature metal mesh transformed by pools of opaque enamel. The reversible 1-inch Ariah bracelet ($105) features the brand’s iconic metal mesh with 18K gold and vividly patterned enamel. The designs are available online at www.whitinganddaviscollection.com/fashion. — Nadine Kam
Cute critters keep hand sanitizer within reach
I’m always digging in my purse to find my hand sanitizer, but this octopus princess with light-up crown from Bath & Body Works has solved that problem. The key ring and clip make it easy to attach to a bag or backpack. A Hawaii hippo sporting a grass skirt and a snorkeling koala bear are also available. Prices range from $5 to $7.50. The critters are designed to hold Bath & Body Works 1-ounce PocketBac sanitizers ($1.75). At Ala Moana Center and Pearlridge. — Nancy Arcayna
Carry your dog in comfort
My mom and grandmother call me ridiculous, my cousin says I’m weird, but this doggie carrier I found on eBay is the best $10 investment I’ve ever made — and the cutest one, too. It converts from a side purse to a front (or back) carrier, allowing your pup’s legs and tail to dangle freely. The front of this washable carrier is made of breathable nylon mesh with elastic and velcro on top, while the back is padded for comfort. It has adjustable shoulder straps, side zippers and comes with a leash. Sizes range from small to extra large for up to 22 pounds. This is an accessory I can’t wait to sport to the grocery store or when picking my kids up from school, goofy or not. Prices range from about $7 to $13. Search bit.ly/ScvbZd. — Kristen Consillio
Site sounds alarm on stolen instruments
Musical instruments are tempting targets for theft — guitars and ukulele, especially. The sooner you can tell the world that an instrument has been stolen, the better your chances are of getting it back. Gear Track (www.gear-track.com) is a free online database where you can register up to five instruments by listing their serial numbers and any distinguishing marks. Report something stolen and Gear Track will get the information out via Facebook, Twitter and email. — John Berger
