Boy, 17, is nabbed in Makiki burglary
Police arrested a 17-year-old boy Thursday after a burglary at a Keeaumoku Street apartment prompted a manhunt in the area.
Police said the suspect was searching the Makiki apartment at about 11 a.m. when he was surprised by the 49-year-old man who lives there. The suspect fled but was caught at about 1:45 p.m. and arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary.

3 pit bulls put to sleep, owner cited after attack
Three pit bulls were euthanized and their owner was cited by police Thursday after the dogs mauled a Chihuahua in Kekaha, the Garden Island newspaper reported.
The newspaper reported that Lisa Serrano and her 11-year-old daughter, Sanoe, were walking their dog Lily along Kekaha Road when one of the pit bulls jumped a fence and attacked the girl.
Serrano said she yelled for Sanoe to drop Lily.
The pit bull attacked Lily. Then four more pit bulls jumped the fence and joined the attack, according to Serrano.
"We saw our dog mauled to death right in front of us," she said.
Eventually, the pit bulls’ owner came out and hit his dogs with a pipe to get them to release Lily, according to Serrano.
She said she took her injured pet to the Kauai Veterinary Clinic in Puhi, where a vet told her nothing could be done to save the dog. Lily’s injuries included punctured lungs, deep bite wounds to the throat and a severed ear.
"This is something that my child will never forget," Serrano said. "This was her best friend."
County spokeswoman Sarah Blane said the Kauai Police Department responded to the scene and cited the owner of the pit bulls for a dangerous-dog violation. The owner suffered a minor injury while attempting to retrieve his dogs during the incident, she said.
Despite being cited for only one violation, the owner surrendered three of his five dogs and had them euthanized.
