Korean megastar Dong-gun Jang is back on the big screen with "No Tears for the Dead," which opens at Pearlridge West on June 20. The Korean title translates to "Crying Man."
Jang plays hit man Jingon, aka Gon, who falls for his female target (Min-hee Kim) on his last job. The film is directed by Jeong-beom Lee, who also directed Won Bin’s "The Man From Nowhere." It’s hard not to compare the two movies, but both are action-packed with hand combat sequences, guns of every type and pools of blood.
"No Tears for the Dead" is not for the faint-hearted, but I bet any fan of Jang will make it through the movie.
Gon gets shot multiple times in the film but can’t be taken down; there also is a sequence in an apartment in which he takes on multiple thugs in a tight corridor that will remind some viewers of the famous 2003 "Oldboy" scene in which Min-sik Choi takes on an entire gang with a hammer.
Brian Tee from "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" and "Wedding Palace" is in the film as Gon’s close friend who is also in the Triad. He is sent to Korea to finish off Gon for going soft on his mission.
I enjoyed the film and highly suggest it, though it is for mature audiences.
