Snorkeler, 73, dies during tour
A 73-year-old visitor from Pennsylvania died Sunday during a guided snorkeling activity off Wailea Point in Kihei.
John Ready of Hatboro, Penn., was found floating about 100 yards from shore around 12:15 p.m., according to Maui police.
CPR was performed on Ready, and he was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Ready was a passenger on a Pacific Whale Foundation cruise boat and was snorkeling at the time of the incident.
An autopsy is pending.
Crews continue search for man
Hawaii County firefighters and Coast Guard personnel will resume the search at first light Monday for a fisherman missing near the Mackenzie State Recreation Area in Hilo.
The search for the 56-year-old man continued for a second full day Sunday without any new leads.
Big Island fire rescue personnel and the Coast Guard conducted a search effort around the Malama Flats area Sunday.
An air crew searched up to a half-mile offshore while divers searched an area fronting Malama Flats.
Ground crews also searched the area between Pohoiki and Kaimu Beach.
The Coast Guard was searching with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Barbers Point and the cutter Kiska.
The man was last seen around 9 p.m. Friday.
Witnesses said he was swept out to sea after slipping on a rock or being knocked down by a wave.
He was wearing black rain gear.
