Father is charged with endangering baby
Prosecutors on Monday charged a 35-year-old Kaimuki man with endangering the welfare of a minor when he apparently jumped off the second floor of an apartment building Sunday with an 11-month-old infant in his arms.
Zelig Pickering initially was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, a Class B felony.
However, because the infant, believed to be his son, was not injured, prosecutors charged Pickering with endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor.
Ambulance crews took the man to the hospital in serious condition along with the infant boy after the incident at the three-story apartment building at 3002 Waialae Ave. at about 11 a.m. Sunday.
