For tea with an oceanfront view, one option is at the Moana Surfrider, where afternoon tea at Veranda at the Beachhouse showcases the work of new pastry chef Nanako Tsuji Perez-Nava, whose light-as-air Japanese-style confections include slices of roll cake with creamy haupia filling that is the stuff of sweet dreams.
The Moana’s classic tea service includes choice of tea and an assortment of sandwiches, scones and dessert sampler, for $40. The First Lady tea service includes a glass of Champagne and finale of fresh berries with brown sugar and creme fraiche, for $48.
A perk: If tea sandwiches aren’t enough, complement the meal with side dishes from the main menu, such as crab cakes ($19) or specials like the seared scallop with hearts of palm, pictured. Tea service runs noon to 3 p.m. daily. Call 921-4600.
