Victim is found in shallow water
A man in his 50s died in shallow water near the Diamond Head area of Waikiki on Wednesday morning.
A Honolulu Fire Department official said a surfer reported finding the victim at 6:07 a.m. in 2 feet of water off a shoreline area fronted by residential homes at the surf spot known as "Tonggs."
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 6:19 a.m.
Man accused of murder attempt
A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to suffocate a 65-year-old woman in her Waimanalo home early Wednesday morning.
Police said the suspect, who did not list a home address, allegedly tried to suffocate the victim in her home at 12:21 a.m. He was arrested three hours later on Old Kalanianaole Highway, near the scene of the crime.
The man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree terroristic threatening and violating a temporary restraining order that the victim had filed against him.
Police said the couple knew each other, but did not release other details.
