Kane notches Gatorade track honors
Kamehameha’s Dylan Kane was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Hawaii boys track and field athlete of the year on Friday.
Kane, who just completed his junior year, won the 100-meter dash in 11.14 seconds and the 200 (21.92) at the HHSAA state track and field championships last month, leading the host Warriors to the boys team title.
He anchored the Kamehameha 4×100-meter relay team that took fourth in 43.29 and the 4×400 quartet that finished fourth in 3:27.43.
The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the track.
Kane, also a standout in football, joins 51 finalists — one from each state and the District of Columbia — eligible for the Gatorade National Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year award, which will be announced in July.
