Kaiser opening medical clinic in Kona
Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is opening a $50 million clinic Tuesday in Kona. The 40,000-square-foot medical office building at 74-517 Honokohau St. will house about 30 exam rooms and offices for 20 health care professionals. It will provide medical care for the more than 20,000 Kaiser members on Hawaii island’s west and north service areas.
Services will include a pharmacy, optical and vision, diagnostic imaging, lab services, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric and other specialty care. The medical building is on nearly 10 acres at the corner of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Honokohau Street and will replace the existing clinic at 75-184 Hualalai Road in Kona. Kaiser also has Hawaii island clinics in Waimea, Hilo and South Kona.
GM recalling 474,000 additional vehicles
DETROIT » General Motors extended its record-breaking string of safety problems, announcing Friday three more recalls, including a large one involving its top-selling vehicle, the GMC Sierra, in which a software glitch can cause the transmission transfer cases to shift into neutral. GM has now recalled more than 20 million cars and trucks. The latest recalls cover 474,000 vehicles for a variety of problems. The largest affects almost 467,000 four-wheel-drive Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, as well as GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUVs.
Some $320,000 due for Hawaii electricians
Electricians working on the recently opened FBI office in Kapolei are owed $319,939 in back wages, according to the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The division found that California-based subcontractor RMA Land Construction Inc. and its subcontractor, isle-based RB Electric, failed to pay proper prevailing wages, as well as overtime, to 48 electricians involved in the project.
"Employees on federally funded construction projects must be paid at least the occupational prevailing wages associated with their work and also stipulated in the prime contract," said Terence Trotter, district director in Hawaii.
