Pig and the Lady kits provide mealtime assist
Got a Fourth of July potluck to attend but don’t know what to bring? The Pig and the Lady comes to the rescue with take-home kits.
Customize a meal: Combine beef skirt steak ($15 per pound), kalbi saba or kaffir lime chicken breast ($12), lemongrass nairagi poke ($11) or smoked coconut pork shoulder steaks ($9) with a variety of sides and sauces ($5-$10) and drinks ($6, 32-ounce container). Or try a P&L pho kit ($65 for five people).
Meats must be cooked; all sides and pho kit are precooked.

Waimanalo farm offers permaculture training
Spend this summer turning "wastelands into food forests" by taking the Permaculture Design Certificate Course in Waimanalo.
Hunter Heaivilin and Matthew Lynch will lead the two-week intensive that includes visits to permaculture farms and learning about site analysis, recycling, architectural and landscape adaptation.
Students will receive a certificate from the Asia-Pacific Center for Regenerative Design.
Classes run 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 27 to Aug. 10 at Green Rows Farm in Waimanalo. Kamaaina price is $1,100, $1,500 regular. Register by Saturday and get a $100 discount. Student, educator and other discounts also available.

New online course teaches food production basics
The University of Hawaii Maui College is launching a new online course: Food Industry Fundamentals.
The four-course series was developed to help bring local products into the marketplace.
The series: "Food Trends and Food Marketplace Overview," "Food Technology and Product Development Process," "Quality Assurance and Food Safety Principles" and "Good Manufacturing Practices for Food Producers."
Each class costs $39; the series is $156. Classes launch Monday and continue through Jan. 31.
