Shooting suspect is in custody
Hawaii County police are investigating a shooting in a residential area of West Hawaii.
Police said one man was in custody and another was undergoing surgery Thursday night at Kona Community Hospital.
The man’s condition remained unknown, police said.
The shooting reported at 6:35 p.m. Thursday at Rabbit Hill Road in Captain Cook appeared to stem from a dispute involving neighbors, according to an initial police investigation.
Man attacked in Wahiawa
A man was assaulted by several people Thursday morning in Wahiawa after he was asked if he had a lighter and replied he didn’t have one, Honolulu police said.
Police said the assault on the 30-year-old man happened at 3 a.m.
Police arrested a 27-year-old man and a 29-year-old man on Koa Street.
The victim said the 27-year-old man asked him for the lighter.
When the victim said he didn’t have a lighter, the 27-year-old man hit him with a beer bottle. The suspect and three others then surrounded the victim and assaulted him, police said.
Police said the 27-year-old man took the victim’s backpack and fled.
Woman reports sexual assault
A woman said she was sexually assaulted in Kalihi.
The 47-year-old woman said the attack took place sometime between 7 and 9 p.m. June 26, according to Honolulu police.
Power failure hits Aiea-Halawa
A power outage affected about 4,000 customers in the Aiea and Halawa areas for about 21/2 hours Thursday night.
Hawaiian Electric spokeswoman Teri Theuriet said an equipment problem caused the outage at about 5:30 p.m. Power was restored by 8 p.m., she said.
