Amis and Ostrowski holding hoops camp
Two former Hawaii basketball players are teaming up again to hold an instructional camp for boys and girls from July 17 to 19 at McKinley High School’s gym.
The Bill Amis and Miah Ostrowski Basketball Skills Camp is for boys and girls ages 6 to 15 and promises a "fun and competitive environment" for its $100 cost. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each of the three days.
Amis was an All-Western Athletic Conference second-team selection at power forward as a senior in 2010-11. The point guard Ostrowski posted 7.0 assists per game his final year in 2011-12, the third-highest single-season average in program history.

Guava Jam wins national tourney
The Guava Jam Softball Club won its division at the Champions Cup on Monday in Irvine, Calif. Guava Jam defeated Firecracker-Flores 5-2 to win the 16U division at the tournament that draws the nation’s top club teams. It is the first time a team from Hawaii has won the tournament.
Earlier on Monday, Guava Jam defeated Las Vegas Rage, 16-1, and Lil Rebels, 2-1, to advance to the title game. The 50-team tournament started Thursday with pool play.
Members of the team are Kristen Ishii, Bree Soma, Keri Togami, Kalei Kaneshiro, Jordan Millwood, Sage Sanborn, Brooke Yasuda, Markie Okamoto, Chassy Stalcup, Aubree Kim, Rayla Jacobs-Kea, Dallas Millwood, Maya Yoshiura, and Gabby Langsi. The team is coached by James Millwood and assisted by Stanley Cabanas and Jensen Kim.
Hawaii Hilo Hall of Fame adds 3
Former athletic director Bill Trumbo is one of three named to this year’s University of Hawaii Hilo Athletic Hall of Fame. Tennis player Arthur Santos and softball pitcher Leo Sing Chow are also inductees.
Trumbo (1990-2000) guided the athletic department through the transition from the NAIA to the NCAA. Along the way, he secured corporate sponsorships for various programs and engineered the Vulcans Athletic Scholarship Fund Drive.
Santos (1975-79) won the 1975 Hawaii State Collegiate singles title. While a student, he started and coached the Waiakea High tennis program. Since leaving UH Hilo, he has competed abroad and conducted prison and wheelchair tennis programs in Hawaii and Wisconsin.
Sing Chow (2003-07) was a four-time all-conference player who led the Vulcans to two league titles and three NCAA regional appearances. She currently coaches the Hilo High softball team.
