Lecture covers Kalaupapa ties
Valerie Monson of Ka ‘Ohana o Kalaupapa will deliver an illustrated lecture on "The Restoration of Family Ties: Bringing Home the Families of Kalaupapa" from 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 24 at Native Books/Na Mea Hawai’i in Ward Warehouse.
Using a growing collection of information compiled from various archives and other sources, the Restoration of Family Ties project has helped hundreds of families learn more about ancestors who were sent to Kalaupapa because of government policies regarding leprosy (now also called Hansen’s disease).

Ewa Orchid Society presents free show
It will be an "Orchid Carnival" at the Ewa Orchid Society’s annual show Friday through Sunday at Ewa Elementary School on Renton Road.
The free event includes a plant sale, country store, demonstrations and lectures. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and till 3 p.m. Sunday.
