Brew honors theater director
Dennis Carroll will be honored with a special beer, the Dennis Carroll Belgian Brew, at Kumu Kahua Theatre’s annual Kala-Bash Fundraiser and Silent Auction Saturday.
Palolo Brewing Co. designed the brew to recognize Carroll, the theater’s founding board member, who has served on the board of directors for 43 years and worked for the company as a playwright, director, playwriting instructor, managing director and artistic director.
The event, from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the theater, 46 Merchant St., includes a guided architectural tour of the area and food from several Honolulu eateries, including Brasserie Du Vin, the Chart House and Murphy’s Bar & Grill.

Moana goes mad for mangoes
Mangoes at the Moana takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Moana Surfrider.
Now in its sixth year, the annual event welcomes back its most popular event, "Mango Throw Down," a cooking competition featuring local celebrity chefs, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Banyan Courtyard.
Other events include a recipe contest, best mango contest, farmers market, cooking demonstration, cocktail mix-down and seminars and workshops.

Learn about tea from a master
Tea master Andrew Lau will discuss the history and Chinese classification of teas, give an introduction to rare teas and explain how to distinguish high-quality teas, 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jade Dynasty Restaurant in Ala Moana Center.
"The New Art of Tea" will be followed with a nine-course Chinese tea-pairing dinner.
