Orchid show presents carnival of blooms
Pick up an exotic bloom, browse the country store and learn more about orchid growing at the Ewa Orchid Society’s annual show Friday through Sunday at Ewa Elementary School, 91-1280 Renton Road.
The "Orchid Carnival" event includes demonstrations and lectures. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and until 3 p.m. Sunday.
Breast cancer group picks spokeswoman
The ‘Iwalani Foundation, a nonprofit aiming to raise awareness about breast cancer, will hold a fundraiser from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday at The Mill Bar & Grill in Mililani.
The foundation, started by cancer survivor and Hawaiian culture specialist Iwalani Tseu of Mililani, will introduce Tasha Chang as its newest spokeswoman representing women under 40.
Chang, 38, is a breast cancer survivor and hula dancer whose slogan is "Just Own It, Darling," a reference to opening up and talking about breast cancer as an illness that can strike women of all ages and ethnicities.
Besides pupu, there will be a DJ, live music and a raffle for prizes.
The Mill is at 95-221 Kipapa Drive in Mililani. Tickets are $25 at the door ($20 pre-sale, available at Plus Interiors at Pearl Highlands or Pictures Plus at Ward Warehouse).
