Donovan Raiola, a former Wisconsin and Kamehameha Schools center, has joined the University of Hawaii football staff as an intern.
Although he was not selected in the 2006 National Football League draft, Raiola eventually was a member of seven teams during his six-year career.
Raiola spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Kamehameha. Raiola and Dean Chung have conducted coaching clinics for offensive linemen.
Raiola will be an administrative assistant to offensive line coach Chris Naeole.
The other interns are:
» Fesootai "Tai" Papalii, a former UHdefensive back and son of longtime college and high school coach Sam Papalii.
The younger Papalii is a Kealakehe High graduate. He will assist Chris Demarest, UH’s special teams coordinator.
» Lance Samuseva, a former UHdefensive tackle, returns as an intern for defense. Samuseva, a Farrington High graduate, was a UHplayer for five seasons through 2003.
The Rainbow Warriors’ graduate assistant coaches are:
» Bo Montgomery, a former UHdefensive lineman. Montgomery was Papalii’s teammate at Kealakehe High.
Montgomery played two seasons at Weber State under Kevin Clune, now the Warriors’ defensive coordinator. Montgomery played for the Warriors in 2008 and 2009. Last year, he worked in Boise State’s recruiting department. As a UHgraduate assistant, Montgomery will help on defense and in recruiting.
» Brad Vonnahme, who was a linebacker coach at Midland University (Fremont, Neb.) the past two seasons. He was a defensive administrator under Clune at Utah State in 2009 and 2010.
» Spencer Hagan, a former wideout at California. Hagan played in 28 games for the Golden Bears before suffering a career-ending knee injury in 2012. He retired from football in September 2013, but remained as a team manager. Hagan will coach the UHtight ends.
