Man allegedly robs bank soon after release
A 31-year-old man is being investigated in connection with the Wednesday robbery of American Savings Bank in the Keeaumoku Walmart that occurred after he was released by police for a robbery in Ewa Beach.
Police said the man was arrested at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Queen’s Medical Center for allegedly robbing a 36-year-old woman at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday at an Ewa Beach business. The man was released later that day pending further investigation.
He then allegedly robbed the American Savings Bank branch at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said he fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, and police arrested him at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Ewa Beach on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
The man has not been charged in either case.
Alcohol may have figured in serious crash
Alcohol appears to be a factor in an early morning crash Thursday in Pearl City that left the passenger of the vehicle, a Waialua man, in critical condition, police said.
The driver, of Waipahu, was heading south on Kuala Street when his vehicle went off the road and crashed into the traffic light pole near Acacia Street at about 4:20 a.m., police said.
Paramedics took the driver, 20, to the hospital in serious condition and his passenger, 22, to the hospital in critical condition, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
Police closed the area as Traffic Division officers investigated the crash. The roads were reopened by 8:10 a.m.
Waipahu man indicted in stabbing at park
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging a 29-year-old Waipahu man with stabbing another man in a fight Sunday night at the Pearl Ridge Community Park.
Benedicto Ceasar was charged with second-degree attempted murder. He remained at Oahu Community Correctional Center on Thursday unable to post $50,000 bail.

Man’s arrest tied to shooting on Big Island
A Puna man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting in Mountain View last month.
On June 28 a 30-year-old Puna man reported that he was shot by a man identified as "Dennis" in the Eden Roc subdivision.
The 58-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He was held at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives continued the investigation.
After conferring with prosecutors, detectives released the suspect pending further investigation.
Hilo drivers warned about rocks on road
Football-size rocks on the roadway damaged vehicles early Thursday morning in Hilo, Hawaii County police said.
Three of the accidents were on Hawaii Belt Highway (Route 19) near ʻAlae Cemetery, and one was on Haihai Street.
Police are asking motorists to use caution when driving during early morning hours, especially when visibility is limited because of rain.
Origin of fire at Coco Palms still a mystery
The cause of the fire at the closed Coco Palms Resort on Kauai is classified as undetermined for the time being.
The case remains under investigation, according to Kauai County spokeswoman Sarah Blane.
The blaze broke out at about noon on July 4 and wasn’t extinguished until two days later. The hotel’s main lobby was destroyed and the breezeway was badly burned.
Damage was estimated at $600,000.
